Would You Choose the Same Autism Path Again?

Earplugs and Hand Flapping

I'm looking for suggestions on my sons sensitivity to sound associated with his PDD-NOS. Recently his hand flapping has increased significantly and his teacher was wondering if maybe giving him something to keep his hands occupied would help.

When I was first introduced to the world of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) over twenty years ago, I was impressed by the object nature of the therapy. I watched programs introduced and data taken in a variety of ways: tape on a therapist’s thigh, hash marks on paper, piles of cards separated into correct, or prompted answers. There were many ways to take the data, but it was always by hand.

The First Day of Middle School

This post is by Deirdre Legge, Greater Boston sub-committee chair for Community, Education, and Awareness and proud mother of Alex.My son started middle school today and well, I am happy to report I survived. So many emotions swirled around me.
There was abject fear, denial, boat loads of uncertainty and complete and utter insanity. And this was just the beginning of the journey…at Wal*Mart getting school supplies. I don’t ever remember my parents going through any kind of school supply shopping hell. When we were kids we just showed up at the bus stop with a shiny new outfit and lunchbox, needing only to cover our books with brown paper bags. But I digress… More Here...

Autism Light: Charles Jones
Charles Jones is from New York City and is a film director. Charles' son Malik has autism and he created a feature length Autism Awareness documentary about the perspective of fathers dealing with autism in their family. Charles Jones is an Autism Light because he is using his film production skills to raise awareness for autism and to help fathers understand that there are resources available for them and that they are not alone.
