Fud Trauma!!!
Some of you might have seen my shout out for help on Facebook and Twitter recently:
“OMG planning a gluten free, dairy free, nut free, mango & kiwi fruit free, vegetarian XMess lunch is challenging”
I think I’ve mostly got it sorted after a weekend of brainstorming, some great advice from Nellbe and much reading of labels in Coles.
BBQ lunch, with lamb chops, chicken, snags, haloumi cheese (we have lemon thyme in the garden FTW) and vegan, gluten free patties (thank you Coles Online for those felafals that were on special a few weeks back, they were delicious and inspired me). Also got a GIANT ham delivered from Aussie Farmers Direct.
Salads, deviled eggs, and selection of cheeses, crackers – some gluten free, some not.
Browsing the aisles at Coles I found gluten free rumballs and shortbread, two Christmas essentials (in my humble opinion). Also husband got gifted a bottle of rum at work so we will be making our own (full of gluten) rum balls.
Dessert is Pavlova with fruit in next Thursdays Aussie Farmers Direct delivery and gluten free custard. I’m glad a small amount of dairy wont set Heidi off so custard is okay to serve.
I’ve gone with as many pre-prepared and easy to make foods as possible, given my Crohns disease tendency to explode under stress and my desire to spend as much time with my family as I can and very little time in the kitchen.
Fud suggestions welcome because our extended family does love to gather and I’m always keen for new ideas that fit in with our food allergies and intolerance.
And while we are here, you can enjoy my fav. Farside Cartoon:

I have to applaud your creativity and determination! The gluten-free diet is really difficult to maintain and you've done the impossible - planned an entire holiday meal within the confines of it.
Awesome!
