  • A Cry For Help

As a Parent of a child with special needs, it's not uncommon to feel depressed.   After all, the stress alone of being a parent is difficult as it is - then add on to that all the 'extra's' that are required for a child with special needs.

These moments of depression, when not kept in check, can overwhelm us.

This past year I've heard horror stories of parents who have reached a point of no return.  They end up taking drastic measures by either injuring themselves or even that of their children.

In some instances this had included death.

Personally I'm grateful for the support network we have in our family.  From family members, friends, and respite care workers - we've been able to stave off that thing called depression.

In some instances we've just had to find ways to take a break so we can release the stress that Parenting a special needs child brings.

Sad, however, that some people reach that point of no return.  The warning signs are usually present - but sometimes go unnoticed as the rest of us go about our daily lives just trying to cope with what we have to deal with.

My request today is that you encourage one another.  Whether it's dealing with Autism, or just with life.   We could all use some encouragement now and then.

Ask if someone needs help.  If you have to, provide help where you see it being needed.

We're all in this together, you are not alone.  We are Able.
