  • Preparing for Transitions

For the past couple of weeks my Better Half and I have been discussing my trip out to southern California.

I'll be attending the National Autism Conference, along with visiting family and a few other people.

It's been a long time since I've been travelling.  Also, it's an odd thing to travel without my Better Half.   She's my best friend whom I enjoy experiencing these things with.

But, Short Stack wouldn't be ready for the airport yet.  We're still dealing with some transition issues, and only me traveling is not only the affordable solution, but the least stressful for this trip.

What must we do at this stage prior to the trip?

    - make sure we maintain the current routine as much as possible.

    - bring Short Stack up to speed on what will be happening

    - have reinforcements scheduled to help maintain his routine, and also help Better Half out.

    - Do as much housework as possible (laundry, yardwork, housecleaning... etc...) not only to help Better Half - but to also make sure the house is in order before I travel.

There's other details on the trip itself that I have to work out, but for the most part the stage is set.  Of course I won't be sharing every detail of the trip in advance - gotta keep you coming back for more... right?

If you'll be attending the conference, I look forward to seeing you there.  If not, stay tuned - there will be a lot of posts coming from this blog (and others) about the trip.

How do you prepare for transitions with your child with Autism?
