  • Military Spouse Appreciation Day with San Diego Padres


    On the West Coast, Karen Driscoll with the Autism Speaks Government Relations team threw out the honorary first pitch for the San Diego Padres game against the Florida Marlins at PETCO Park as part of Military Spouse Appreciation Day presented by TriWest. Driscoll, a Marine Corps wife and mother of a son with autism, recently joined Autism Speaks as Associate Director for Federal Government Affairs and Military Relations. 

    "Military families shoulder tremendous responsibilities today. Military families impacted by autism face even more extraordinary circumstances," says Driscoll. "I greatly appreciate TriWest's leadership in the delivery of autism care and services, and I love how the San Diego community rallies in support of our military spouses and children. Community support plays a vital role in family care, and events like today highlighting the sacrifices our military families make are important."

    TriWest Healthcare Alliance, which administers the Department of Defense TRICARE health insurance program in 21 western states, asked the Padres to have Driscoll through the ceremonial first pitch for the game. She also spoke at the recent Autism Speaks Salutes Military Families event aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York.
