• Book Review: The Golden Hat - Talking Back To Autism

  
  
  
  Sometimes when a celebrity lends their name to a cause you wonder if it's for real, or just a way to be philanthropic.

  I didn't have that thought in regards to Kate Winslet, and reading this book just confirmed it.

   

  In these past few weeks we've seen Kate going from Morning show to talk show sharing about this book.  

  Of course much of the hype around the book revolves around all the effort to get celebrities to wear this hat and snap a photo of themselves.   

  Now the purpose of the hat coincides with a poem - that it gives a magical power enabling someone to speak.  Especially to those who can't speak.

  The poem was written by Keli, Margret's son - who has Autism and is non-verbal.

   

  The celebrity and star power is pretty interesting, and I admit I even laughed when I saw George Clooney wear the hat and apologize for Batman and Robin, but I digress.

   

  What fascinated me more was how The Golden Hat Foundation was inspired - it's name and purpose.  

  Prior to all the celebrity pictures is a chapter containing the e-mail correspondence between Kate and Margret.   The heart of this book and the passion of their vision is plain for all to see.

  You even get the understanding of Keli, Margret's son, who inspired the Golden Hat name with his poetry.

   

  There's something divinely inspired when you read this book - and how many people are catching onto their vision.

   

  It didn't take me long to send a message back to the folks at The Golden Hat Foundation on how well produced this book was.  After all, they've contributed some for the Giveaway sweepstakes we're doing on our facebook fan page.

   

  Like the book and the author's of it - the folks I've talked with at the Foundation are just as passionate in helping those on the Spectrum.

   

  Needless to say, I highly recommend this book.
