  • Online Education and Stay-at-Home Parents

Raising a child with autism especially early on is typically its own day job. You’re more than willing to care for your child as much as possible, even at the expense of your career or continuing education. That doesn’t necessarily need to be the case though. It might make sense to you to wait until your child is older to resume work or getting a degree, but the time is actually now and there’s a simple way to get it done. It just takes the dedication you demonstrate everyday, and a computer which you already have.

Getting a college degree is essential for the parent of an autistic child. Therapy sessions for growing autistic minds can be as high as $8,000 a month and if you aren’t insured that whole sum can be out of pocket. 80% of autistic persons between the ages of 18-30 continue to live with their parents. It’s sort of a taboo topic, but the costs of caring for a person with autism are staggering. Parents with the leanest of education keeping them up have the hardest time getting a job with the benefits and the wage that can accommodate the costs of being a good parent.

Having a bachelor’s degree is enough to nearly double your weekly income. That figure is truly doubled if you get a masters degree. The average PhD makes almost $90,000 a year. Meanwhile, those with a high school diploma and nothing more earn on average less than $25,000 a year. The data says it all. If you care about the lifetime well being of your child, you absolutely need to consider getting the highest level of education. Here’s the nifty thing: dozens of terrific degree programs are now available online, so being a stay-at-home mom is not the impossible precipice keeping you from college it once was. There are even highly rated online doctorate programs, so reaching as high as you possibly can should not only be a priority, it should be no problem.

You need to act now though. It’s going to take a proactive measure to make sure your son or daughter is going to have a rich fulfilling life into adulthood and beyond. Don’t wait until the time when you should be resuming a career to go back to school when you can today. Online and evening programs, and even ones that mix the two, are such ideal choices that passing them up is saying farewell to a future better life for you and your family.

You already have the necessary tools to succeed in higher education; your computer you’re using right now and the grit you exercise everyday. Put them to as best of use as possible and look into online degree programs. Scholarly pursuits can mean the difference between autism being a struggle and being no problem in the lives of you and your child.
