First milestones: Awards and Report cards
Today, as I opened her backpack; I saw a Recognition Award given to her by her Teacher! Yes, she was awarded a certificate for TRUSTWORTHINESS! My baby girl received an award. I asked her if she knew what it meant, and all I got was a blank stare. LOL. I explained that her teacher trusted her; trusted her to turn in her homework, done and on time. She trusted her putting stuff away at school. And many more reasons. Although she didnt understand the magnitude of receiving an award - she also got a certificate for a free childs plate at Claim Jumpers. Because that was more colorful and had bright stars - she was more excited for that.
My first reaction was excitement, and pride. Then it escalated down to, why didnt the teacher call me and give me heads up especially if they were doing an assembly. I would have liked to be there and take pictures of this momentous milestone. Who would have thought, you know. The teacher said; they didnt hold an assembly for kindergardens but she would have definitely given me heads up. So lets cross our fingers, and hope for next time. Meanwhile, to my beautiful babygirl, WAY TO GO!!!!
And now to the next item; her first quarter report card. *tears* I know, she got her first report card - and she did really good! I didn't know what to expect especially since it is a Special Day Class - Non Categorical Kindergarden class. I wasn't sure if they treated it as a nuerotypical class, and on their scale. But I will let her know when we go to Chuck E. Cheeses that she needs to bring it and for every "O" for Outstanding that she received she gets tokens!
My babygirl is growing up!
She is getting awards, report cards, and was in a kindergarden Christmas musical and did awesome in front of an audience! How time is flying by! Now as I am looking ahead I hope and look forward to her being in a typical classroom, no more ABA or speech therapy, maybe just maybe the AVID program, and 5th grade science camp! I am so looking toward the future, her future!

This brings a tear to my eye.
I have an autism spectrum disorder often confused with Asperger's and PDD-NOS's aspects.
This reminds me when I was younger. Though I was in a regular classroom (which might have been a little too much looking back at home movies but that was also 15 years ago). I went through speech therapy, occupational therapy, social therapy and physical therapy. I've been to several psychologists and doctors. I graduated from high school with an advanced diploma in June and I'm conquering college. My physical issues and my social issues are often times hard for me still.
I wish you and your daughter a lot of luck :)
All parents have unique stresses as the result of raising children, but what is being done to help parents cope?
My name is Crystal Lee, and I am a doctorate student in clinical psychology at Baylor University. For my dissertation I am studying stress and ways of coping with stress in parents. My hope is to use the data from my dissertation to create an effective way to help parents cope with stress.
I am looking for parents of children ages 5-12 in three categories:
1. Parents of children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder
2. Parents of children with Type 1 Diabetes
3. Parents of children with no diagnoses
If you meet the above criteria, please take this survey, which takes 30-45 minutes to complete: https://baylor.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_0GJF7ldjuBwBWEk
If you do not meet the above criteria, please consider forwarding the survey to any parents you know that fit the above criteria.
People who complete the survey can participate in a drawing for one of three $50 giftcards to Amazon.com. Additionally, people who refer others to the survey get their name added into the drawing for each person they refer.
If you have any questions regarding the study, you may contact me at Crystal_Lee1@Baylor.edu
Thank you for your time and help,
