  • Abuse of Autistic Child in Albuquerque, New Mexico

[warning: this video contains a scene where a child is being hit]

A man caught on camera abusing a 12-year-old boy with autism has yet to be charged after KOB Eyewitness News 4 first exposed the video in November. It was recorded at Camelot in southeast Albuquerque, a facility that offers 24-hour care to children who have autism. The 37-year-old man seen kneeing the child in the head is still free, and was fired from the facility on an unrelated incident before the video was aired. KOB Eyewitness News 4 immediately called authorities after the video was obtained through a source, and gave a copy to Albuquerque Police.

As a parent of an Autistic Child, how would you respond to the delay in charges being filed?

That poor, poor boy! He is so distraught! He is having a melt down and freaking out and he is scared - and I can't believe that man yelled at him and hit how! How awful!!!!!!! That poor child, I feel so bad for him! Look how scared he is, laying on the ground afraid and not understanding what is going on... I wish I had never seen this.  My heart hurts so bad for him and his family.  They will be in my prayers for a long time.

I am horrified. What the child was doing was typical behavior for an autistic; rocking and humming to himself. It's something they do to self-soothe when caught in a barrage of external stimuli or simply upset.

I hope they bury that creep UNDER the jail. Autistic behaviors can be very hard to live with (I know, I have two children on the spectrum), but kneeing a child in the head is not an acceptable way to deal with the stress. While I have no doubt that this was stress-motivated, to attack a child who is not violent, and is in a defensive posture, is sick and horrible. This clearly wasn't a case of self defense and this man needs to be in jail.

When are we going to get these kids to get the help they need...this is how autistic kids act...this scene is going to happen more and more until THE WORLD wake upand helps these kids together there is going to be noone that is not greatly affected by autism within a few years...its everywhere  .

most people cant handle these kids BY  themseves..Even trained people need assistance at all times....the world needs to help these kids NOW ..right here in the USA..there is a huge crises...bigger and more heartbreaking then any other..these kids are like apraxic stroke victoms...they are smart but know they can not talk or do the things others can do...this is why they get sooo frustrated...once you understand how they feel you understand the symptoms.......it makes sense... what doesnt is how our country ignores and doent fund help for these kid or blames....yes they are extreamy difficult to deal with they are also the most loving pure angels you will know.
