  • Would you be interested in an Autism and/or Special Needs Blogger Conference

I really enjoyed the BlogHer conference environment.  The breakout sessions weren’t my cup of tea, but I enjoyed meeting new bloggers and PR reps.  I also enjoyed being in NY.  I also learned a lot about the type of blogger I am, and the type of blogger I would like to be.

One thing I noticed, only one person asked me what my long term goals were for my blog.  That was Melissa, with Kolcraft.  She was interested in me as a blogger, and what I wanted to accomplish.  It is my hope that I will be able to help improve the lives of families raising an autistic child.  I would like to be more politically active, help families obtain services and therapy tools for their child, and help schools with providing better learning aids and supplies in the classroom.  Most of all, I would like to promote Autism Awareness among everyone we come in contact with.

One person can make a difference.  Many can bring about change.  I would like to put together a blogger conference for just autism and special needs bloggers.  I would like this to be a small conference that brings bloggers, companies, and autism specialists all together.  I would like us to be able to ask questions, not just be lectured at.  I would like big companies to help sponsor the conference, and for them to learn how they can help us help others.

What do you think?  Is this something you would be interested in?

I think it's a great idea, too. My blog (www.differentdream.com) is about special needs, not just autism, and getting together with other bloggers would be a great way to network and share ideas.

YES!!! It is a fantastic idea. I have a small blog in our city about promoting living with possibilities not anything that tries to "dis" able us. Anytime we, as bloggers, moms and advocates, can come together and help each other is a fantastic idea! I am a SAHM and just someone who really believes in the potential in human spirit. I know I am not the only one!

Your goals are clear and direct. A wonderful and refreshing idea. Evidently, autistic children are misrepresented and therfore miunderstood by school system. the past 3 years have been an endless battle with the both the public and the seperate school board. My son still attends school 3hrs each day despite relentless advocacy. sigh..

I hope you can visit us soemtime @ http://zanesproject.blogspot.com/

What a nice idea!  My suggestion: reach out to local healthcare/medical students.  As a student of occupational therapy, I'd love for me and my classmates to have a better chance to talk to people who have autism and their parents/caregivers.  Even when we do fieldwork in settings with people with autism, it's not quite the same learning experience.  It's especially important, too, that future doctors, dentists, and so on get a good perspective on autism.  I'm sure you could do a lot to educate people, as well as have fun with fellow bloggers.
