  • My First Meet Up!

I joined a Meetup group at a friends suggestion.

I have seen it online and on the search engines but never thought about it. Its a group where Moms find similiar interests with other moms and get together. Its hard making friends sometimes. So I joined her group, and went to a coffee/chat breakfast meeting today.

It was interesting to say the least, we all have kids on the Spectrum, different ages, different functioning levels. One is starting out and listening to her brought back all the memories when I started.

I was alone on this journey from the beginning. If I would have known the things I know now that I didn't back then - I'm sure things would be different. Maybe she would have advanced more, and then maybe she would be in the same spot. I don't know. But I am really happy with her progress.

There are days when she is like any normal child. Then there are days when she has her moments. I'm so proud of her! I'm so proud of all the hard work she has done, with Speech therapy, ABA therapy, school, and her self improvement. Plus I'm sure age maturity has helped too.

I just want to hug and tell all those parents who have been selected into this journey of ASD life - to stay strong. Stay positive. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Some days will be hard, other days will be easy - but things will get better!

My daughter didn't speak until a few months before her 5th birthday and now I have a chatty Cathy with a beautiful voice!

Are you a part of a meetup group?
