On Christmas Eve, after HRH had his bath I sat him on my lap. I wrapped my arms around his body, pinning his arms to his chest. Mr LS straddled his legs, securing one of his ankles between his knees and proceeded to clip HRH's toe nails. HRH screamed, he always does. But this time he also screamed
"Oh no HELP! Oh no HELP!"
Upside: He used the word 'help' for the first time and used it appropriately. Also, the fact that he verbalized while extremely distressed is a big deal.
Downside: Everything else!!
I am now pretty desperate to find ways to ease the trauma of the event, for everyone's sake. My 'Mummy Guilt' has reached unprecedented levels. In the words of a fabulous 3 year old boy with autism and SPD:
Oh no, HELP!
Any suggestions on clipping your child's toenails without screams of horror?

Uh... if you can do it while he's sleeping maybe... unless that would wake him up. Or maybe do one at a time in a rotating cycle. That way only one nail ever needs it at any given time.
With my nephew, it took us allowing him to cut our nails, with extreme supervision, for him to be fine with us allowing it to do it with him. Now he will go in and get the clippers himself and bring them to you with a big grin on his face.
