Rethink Autism helps parents provide ABA therapy
Rethink Autism offers parents a more affordable way to provide ABA therapy for their autistic child. ABA(Applied Behavior Analysis) is considered to be one of the most effective ways of teaching a child diagnosed with autism. The younger you start an autistic child on ABA therapy, the more progress you are likely to see.
My son wasn’t diagnosed until he was five. At that age, he was unable to receive ABA from Early Intervention, or the public school system. I have not tried to use ABA therapy with him on my own, because I have not been able to find a book that explained it to me in a way that I was comfortable using the method to teach my son.
Rethink Autism provides parents like me with the ability to learn and teach using ABA. The first thing you do is fill out a questionnaire on your child. Once you have done that, a plan is put together for you to follow with your child. The curriculum that comes up can be amended by you. You have the option to add in lessons you think your child is ready for.
Each lesson has a quick step by step video tutorial for you to watch. I love the videos. I am a visual learner, and it works so much better for me to watch versus reading. After you watch the videos, you can print out data sheets and lesson plans.
I was going to put my son back into public school, because I was starting to feel lost on how to teach my son certain basic skills. Reviewing Rethink Autism has given me new hope for home schooling my son appropriately. I will be talking with my husband, and if we can afford to subscribe to this program, then I will keep him home again this year.
One thing that I really like about this program, is that you can set up the schedule to include other care providers, like my son’s community worker. She would be able to do some of the daily living lessons, while I worked more with the academic lessons. After I have talked with my husband, I will update this post to let you know what we have decided.
