Just when you think your life is crumbling, things happen that sober you into reality. Wake up calls. "Hey, things are not that bad - stop complaining! You wanna hear bad? Listen to this!" Boom. Reality check.
My niece's mom, my brother's in-law's ex-wife, lost her brother in a horrible car accident two weeks ago. He went out for a pack of cigarettes and stopped at a red light, a few blocks from home. He was hit head-on by a speeding car, that was being chased by the police. He died instantly. He was 37 years-old with two young girls - ages 4 and 1. He had a lovely wife, a beautiful home and a great career. He was very much loved and generous to a fault. The driver of the other car, a young man in his 20s, was killed as well as a passenger.
My niece has been very upset - and her mother's family is distraught and numb. There are no comforting words for a loss like that. It is a tragedy you cannot justify. But it is a lesson for the rest of us:
Just when you think life is bad, remember that it can be snatched away in an instant. So be thankful for the moment. We are here. And every second is precious.

Im thankful for every moment when i read things like this. /: What im most thankful for is my family and the amazing friends i have. Im thankful fer the loving boyfriend i have also.
Thats an unbelievable tragedy. And im so sorry fer there loss:P
I am thankful for every moment my son smiles ... because that means he is happy. There are too many times where he is upset or unhappy and can't vocalize that to us. I long for the day he can tell us his tummy hurts or he is tired ... instead of us trying to guess that is the reason for his not feeling well.
Until then I continue to love and live for my son with autism ... because he is worth it and makes me smile.
