Occupational Therapy: Handwriting

We’ve been continuing our weekly visits to the Occupational Therapist (OT) and practicing our handwriting skills. It is amazing how over a few short weeks Annie has really made huge leaps in the quality of her handwriting. Just 2-3 minutes practice each day and she has shown a vast improvement.
We started out learning the “c family” of letters and have since progressed to the “r family” – they all start with the curvy bit at the top left corner and then go down and back up again.
Shaving cream writing has proved a very popular past time for both my girls. While Annie practices her letters Heidi draws pictures
It is tricky coming back up the the same line you’ve drawn down but Annie is getting there with practice. The next family of letters we worked on was the ‘v family’ which all start with the same curve.
How beautiful and lovely is that handwriting
" /> ….. okay so it is in shaving cream but I still think it is the best.
The shaving cream led to a huge revelation about Annie’s teacher also – not only does she actually read the copies of the OTs notes I make for her (shock, horror, gasp!) but she incorporates some of the ideas into her classroom teaching. Annie was thrilled to come home and tell me all about how they have been doing shaving cream writing at school
We sure have struck it lucky with this years teacher.
Going to the OT is turning out to be far more worthwhile than I’d every in my wildest dreams imagined.
