First up is a matching game or as Heidi calls it ‘Star Words’. Heidi is a very strong visual thinker so this appeals to her visual skills finding words that are the same. At this stage I’m not so interested in Heidi learning the words, more that she can identify when things are ‘different’ and not ’same’ – word structure.

Autism Activities: Matching Game and Jigsaw Puzzle
I’ve been stealing ideas from Annie’s classroom teacher to make fun games for Heidi to play at home on her day off school.
The other game is a word jigsaw puzzle. I printed large copies of each of the golden words on yellow paper and laminated them, then using a pair of scissors cut each word into two or three pieces (depending on the number of letters in the word). Once again appealing to her strengths, Heidi enjoys jigsaw puzzles and is very good at them.
Try these games yourself! Here are the pdf files:Golden Words Star Matching Game
