  • Alex Barton - Revisited

As you may remember, Alex Barton was the little boy whose teacher had him "voted out" of his kindergarten class by his peers. He is now an honor student at another school that is obviously doing a much better job of meeting his educational needs.

I saw this on Fox & Friends some time ago, I am really glad to see that he is doing well. And he was cracking me up doing "thumbs up" and big grins (to the cameraman?) while his mom was talking :). What a cutie!

I am happy to see that this young man is doing so much better now. What is really sad is thatit is because of a lack of knowledge about what Autism is, that led to the teacher's very innappropiate behavior. I really do hope that they have brought her up to speed on what it is and PROPER handling of autistic children. (This is not to say that she should do what she did to neuro typical children either.)

Success is the best revenge, indeed.  Thanks for posting.

...and Wendy Portillo -  who pulled this stunt against a kindergarten student - is still a teacher???? Suspended for one year, sure - but how closely will she be watched for any further provocative actions against her students?

Kudos to Melissa Barton for stepping up! Many thanks for sharing this!

I've come to know Melissa Barton very well during some advocacy work that I did, and I am still in awe of her. Yes, success is the best revenge :)

As for Portillo... I'm a Christian, and I'm supposed to forgive. I'm working on that after hearing what Alex has gone through with her. I just hope and pray that she has been re-educated herself and she has truly learned how to treat children and children with differences especially. I hope she spent that year learning about Autism and how to treat children with it because while she's dealing with older kids now, who knows if her next group of students won't have an autistic child in it... that's what I hope and pray for.
