  • Study Shows Little Connection Between Autism and MMR Vaccine

    From: Dr. Chun Wong

The autism rates of been on the rise for years and though there are many theories, there are no definite explanations to the increase of cases.

On December 1st, 2009, in the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, a report was released comparing cases of Autism with the MMR (Measles-Mumps Rubella) Vaccine. Some earlier cases suggested an association between the two, while other studies showed otherwise.

In this newest, small scale study, there were 96 autism cases of children from ages 12 to 15, and 192 healthy children matched to cases by birth year and sex. Other factors in the study included mother’s age, medication during pregnancy, generation time, and perinatal injury in the analysis and it was found MMR vaccine was not linked to increased risk of autism.

Of children vaccinated before diagnosis, those who were vaccinated with MMR were at 83 percent reduced risk of autism and those vaccinated with single measles vaccine were at 56 percent reduced risk compared to those who were non-vaccinated.

Vaccinated children were at 72 percent reduced risk of autism compared to those who were did not receive measles vaccine.

The researchers concluded that “the study provides evidence against the association of autism with either MMR or a single measles vaccine.”

Actually, I really appreciate you posting this.  I'm currently expecting my first child, and I need all of this information.

I was autistic before I got the MMR vaccine.  My son got it as an infant, and is not autistic.  The studies seem true.

I have asked this on several occasions but you choose not to reply.  I wonder why? I would like to know if you have an MD, if you are a conventionally-medically trained physician as well as an alternative practitioner.  You have a commercial site and I would like to know your qualifications before entering into any purchase from you.  I have searched on the AMA site and can find no doctor of your name registered with them.

@SavonDuJour@xanga - Here is a Google search for Dr. Wong. He is a practicing Chiropractor in Algonquin Illinois. Yes he has an MD.

That is all I can tell you, except that there has never been a testable cure for autism so take his cures with a grain of salt.

@bosefius@xanga - Thanks for the info. Didn't see anything at all about him having an MD, did I miss a link?  I think autism is a collection of symptoms the expression of which may fit somewhere along the line of autism/Aspergers or, in some cases, may be entirely unrelated. A bit like how sneezing, fever, coughing and aching might be just a cold but might be something far more serious or even something like an allergy.  And it is these people who seem to be autistic because of the symptoms displayed but actually aren't who there might be a cure for.  (That doesn't read very well but I am sure you get the sense of it).

Dr Wong is expensive for a non-cure touted as one, but unbelievably cheap if it works.

@SavonDuJour@xanga - The link here states he is a practicing physician which requires an MD. Also, here is he listed as a DC, Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine.I am surprised there is no searchable database online for Doctors...

As for a cure, I wish you luck in your endeavor's, hopefully you will find the resolution you seek.

@bosefius@xanga -  There is, the AMA, and I couldn't find a listing for him there. It is possible to get a 'doctor of chiropractic' degree and use the title Dr. without having a medical degree.  In most countries use of the title without an MD is not allowed but it is in the US and Canada.

Chiropractic was started in Davenport, Iowa by D.D. Palmer (1845-1913) who was also enamoured of magnetism.   His son, B.J. said that their chiropractic school was founded on a "business, not a professional basis.   We manufacture chiropractors. We teach them the idea and then we show them how to sell."  (Rose Shapiro. Suckers. How Alternative Medicine Makes Fools of Us All. Random House, London 2008).  This is why I wanted to know if Dr Wong has a medical degree or is in the business of selling.

Interesting idea, I look forward to reading more, Chiropractic treatment is one of the best methods for treating numerous health problems naturally. After years of experience being a chiropractor, I found that it is a powerful way to solve pain conditions, like headaches, neck pain and back pain, as well as many non-pain condition as well, such as fatigue, sleep problems, and sinus problems.
