  • Living in the Moment

I once spoke to a parent who said she couldn’t stop worrying about her child.  That was when I shared this story with her:

"While raising Brandon, I often worried about him and his future.  Ten years ago, I found this wonderful book, The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.  After reading it several times I began to understand how much better my life would be if I could live in the moment.  After much practice I began to live for today, and my entire life changed for the better.  I worried less giving me more time to enjoy myself, and I realized that worrying never helped.  It only robbed me of precious energy that I could have used more wisely. Years later, I still practice this wonderful technique in my daily life.  Give it a try and see what you think.

Can you live in the moment?

I have very little choice in the matter. I have great difficulty grasping the passage of time or appreciating the future consequences of present actions. I frequently talk about things that happened "the other day" to have my wife respond, "that was x years ago". My problem is not living in the present it's getting out of it.

    • About Me: I am a mother to an autistic adult son, a motivational speaker, an independent living coach, and author of Raising Brandon. I specialize in supporting parents of children with autism and special needs through workshops, seminars, and private sessions. Utilizing a background in sales and marketing, I was the host of a cable show dedicated to parents who had children with special needs. My results-based approach focuses on empowering both parents and their children to reach their full potential. Starr's newly released book, Raising Brandon, is an autobiographical account of her struggle to raise her son in a world where autism was not understood. The book follows Starr's life from the birth of her youngest son, his diagnosis with autism, intractable epilepsy, severe learning disorders, and her goal to help him live his dream of independence.
